Paul Abatemarco joins Stardust as executive producer for West Coast studio
With a seasoned creative team at its helm, Favorite Color is New York’s latest entrant to the City’s vibrant motion design community.
Favorite Color co-founders Doug Matthews and Dave Dimmick established the groundwork for the innovative studio. Prior to Favorite Color Matthews and Dimmick formed and managed a successful production studio with a client list comprised of fortune 500 companies. “With Favorite Color our vision is to build a studio that’s different and unique. Our philosophy on everything from creative talent to the creative process is a bit of a break from the traditional model,” says Dimmick. Serving as Favorite Color’s executive producer is Casey Steele, formerly of Brand New School, Logan and Stardust. Lindsay Daniels, formerly of Digital Kitchen, is creative director. And renowned industry rep Erin Serletic is leading broadcast sales as VP of Business Development.
“Our goal is to do really smart work that is rooted in conceptual thinking and inspired by design, art and film — things that are not just the current trend,” explains Daniels, who specialized in motion graphics and live action work as a designer at Digital Kitchen. Her projects there included the Emmy Award-winning main title for the “Dexter” TV series and the Emmy-nominated main title for “Path to 9/11.”
One of Favorite Color’s first projects is a minute-long anthem titled, “Birth of Color.” In it, colors become characters unto themselves. The main character, the color red, is on a journey to make the color purple. He passes yellow and green before he finally finds a floating blue creature. He swims into it and together the two create an explosion of purple. “It goes back to the basic principles of color theory, humanity and attraction,” Daniels explains.
Favorite Color also recently completed an environmental piece for The Dream Hotel, which will appear on plasma screens in guest rooms at the Manhattan and Bangkok branches of the luxury hotel. It will also be incorporated into the hotel’s website.
“The mission is to do creative, collaborative, intelligent work that answers the clients’ needs,” Steele says. “The only way we can succeed is to give clients not only the best work but also the best experience. We check in with clients throughout the entire process, instead of trying to do some big reveal at the end.”
“I see this being a very collaborative and engaging process that focuses on the product but also on the needs of the individuals working on it,” says Daniels.
